Mount Sinai and St. Catherine's Monastery from Sharm El Sheikh

Day 1

Early evening departure to St. Catherine which is located about 220 km Northwest of Sharm El Sheikh. Upon arrival you will have a short rest at the Monastery guest house for refreshment before beginning the climb up Moses Mountain.  The climb to the 7,498-foot peak will take approx. 3 hours. You will follow the Path of Moses, a stairway of nearly 700 steps. The Chapel of the Holy Trinity on the very peak of the mountain is the spot where Moses had received the Ten Commandments.  From there the view opens to the stunning scenery of the sunrise over the Mountains of Sinai.  Upon returning from the mountain you will join a guided visit of the Monastery of St.Catherine. Within its imposing walls rests a Citadel like no other, incredibly rich in important religious and historical structures. Among its treasures is a library of ancient manuscripts and icons second only to the Vatican itself, and a 6th Century Church reputed to lie directly on the site of the Burning Bush. Quite simply, the Monastery is a defining feature of the Holy Land.
